Any one know a great school and area to live in charlotte NC?

I am looking to relocate in Charlotte, NC and I have never been there! but job opportunity is plentiful in my field. I am a mother of a kindergartner and was hoping to move before the new school year, but I have not found work or schools or housing. My question is should I apply for subsidized/ income- based housing until I get my job? I am in the health field and I am confident I will have one, but I don't know the first thing about relocating. My mother died, father and brother left to two separate states, now my sister is relocating, who has been my closest relative since the change in our lives, to Charlotte,NC. As a single mother and daughter of a, once, close knit family, I want to maintain my family dynamics for my kids. what would you suggest be the first step in relocating expediently
