What happens when supposed rituals go wrong?

What happens when a supposed magik ritual goes wrong when people who messed with the supernatural wheres as they shouldn't have in the first place eg. seance, summonings, spells. If you know of any could you please state what ritual and such was being attempted and why it went wrong.
