How can I improve my reading comprehension skills?

I'm in advanced English. When it comes to writing papers and grammar stuff, I'm like a pro. The only thing that's keeping me from being the best in my cl is the fact that my reading is terrible. Honestly, when we read in cl, it takes me like twenty minutes to read like five pages and then when we do comprehension questions, it takes me FOREVER to do those, especially when the questions are our opinions. A lot of times, I barely even get what the story is about. Last year, we read about six novels and I only understood Romeo and Juliet. We even read an autobiography and I didn't even understand that. How can I improve in the reading department?
